PDP Crisis: “Atiku, Wike Must End This Nonsense” – Bode George

Chief Bode George, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a member of the party’s Board of Trustees, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to put an end to the ongoing crisis within the opposition party.

Speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Friday, January 31, 2025, George described the situation as discouraging, noting that internal conflicts fueled by personal ambitions are weakening the party.

George traced the roots of the crisis to the PDP’s national convention before the 2023 presidential election. He pointed fingers at both Atiku and Wike, accusing them of making serious missteps that have harmed the party’s stability.

While addressing the issue, George did not hold back in his criticism. He called on both politicians to put the party’s interests above their personal differences and stop what he described as unnecessary conflicts.

“Throwing tantrums and accusing APC, we are just trying to undermine the issue. We must sit down, all sides of the divides. Both Atiku and Wike have committed hara-kiri, and we must be bold enough to tell them enough of this nonsense,” George said.

To resolve the matter, George urged PDP leaders to take concrete steps by forming a committee to investigate the root causes of the crisis. He believes that anyone found guilty of wrongdoing should face appropriate consequences to restore discipline and order within the party.

“We have to set up a committee to x-ray the mess that started on that convention day, and we sought it out. Anybody guilty of any serious offences must be dealt with. It’s not a private concern, and we have no apology; if you are a member of an organisation, there are rules and regulations on what you should do, follow them; if you can’t follow the regulations and you think you can manoeuvre A to B for your sustenance, then we ease you out,” he said.

George made it clear that the PDP cannot afford to keep blaming the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its problems. Instead, he stressed that internal issues must be handled within the party.
