The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Yusha’u Ahmed, has announced that corps members will begin receiving a new monthly allowance of N77,000 starting in February. This is a significant increase from the previous N33,000 stipend they have been receiving.
Speaking on the matter, Ahmed explained that although the month of January had already ended, corps members should expect the new payment once the 2024 national budget is approved. “This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving N77,000 instead of the usual N33,000,” he said.
Ahmed also noted that the government remains committed to ensuring the welfare and security of corps members across the country. He urged them to appreciate this development by dedicating themselves fully to their service year.
On the issue of safety, he assured corps members that they would not be posted to dangerous locations. “We will not send our corps members to any areas with security challenges. Wherever we send them, they should be assured that the place is safe and secure for them to serve,” he added.
The NYSC program, established in 1973, was designed to promote national unity and development by deploying young graduates to different parts of the country for a mandatory one-year service.
