Police Confirms Tanker Explosion at Jigawa Filling Station, Says No Casualties

A tanker explosion at a filling station in Dutse, Jigawa State, caused panic among residents on Thursday. However, authorities have confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident.

The state’s police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Adam, confirmed the explosion in a statement on Friday. He noted that the fire broke out at Shakkato Filling Station along Kiyawa Road while petroleum products were being discharged into an underground tank.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the fire broke out when the tanker was trying to discharge petroleum products from the tanker into an underground tank.

“Suddenly, the fire ignited and became wild beyond the control of filling station operators, who quickly alerted authorities to curtail the situation.”

Upon receiving the report, a police team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dutse arrived at the scene to manage movement around the area.

Firefighters from Dutse International Airport and the Federal Fire Service in Dutse town also responded promptly. They successfully contained the blaze, preventing further damage to nearby structures.
