Oluwole Oke, the lawmaker representing the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State in the House of Representatives, has advised former Governor Rauf Aregbesola to seek reconciliation with President Bola Tinubu.
Oke suggested that Aregbesola should “go and beg, prostrate, and make peace” with his former political leader to mend their strained relationship.
Oke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shared this opinion on social media, stating that if he were in Aregbesola’s position, he would take the same steps to resolve any differences.
His comment comes at a time when political uncertainty continues to affect Osun State, following the decision of Omoluabi Progressives, a group aligned with Aregbesola, to break away from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The split within the APC is believed to stem from long-standing disagreements between Aregbesola and his successor, former governor Adegboyega Oyetola. Additionally, reports suggest that Aregbesola’s fallout with Tinubu played a role in his decision to distance himself from the party.
Oke, while confirming his statement to reporters, noted that if he had been a member of the APC, he would have made efforts to reconcile Aregbesola and Oyetola to strengthen the party. He also pointed out that the PDP should capitalize on the internal crisis within the APC, emphasizing Aregbesola’s significance in Osun politics.
Describing Aregbesola as a “major force” and a well-known political figure, Oke wrote: “Egbon Rauf ‘Soji Aregbesola, former governor of Osun State and Minister of Interior, is an enigma – a grassroots mobiliser, singer, and dancer. He is a major force and a BRIDE in Osun politics, whether we admit it or not.”
He further noted that if he were in Aregbesola’s position, he would take active steps to restore peace with Tinubu. “If I were in his shoes, I would go and beg, prostrate, and make peace with my principal, PBAT. Assuming I were a member of the APC in Osun, I would ensure that Asiwaju Gboyega Oyetola and Ogbeni Aregbesola reconcile. As we know, ‘Ija o dola’ – fighting doesn’t bring wealth.”
Oke advised the PDP to act swiftly to take advantage of the APC’s internal struggles, stressing that Aregbesola remains a valuable political asset. He compared Aregbesola’s role to that of a “bride” in Osun politics, saying: “The PDP must act fast, pay the necessary dowry, and bring this ‘bride’ into their fold. Symbol, as he is popularly known, is not someone you let wander.”
Reflecting on Aregbesola’s influence, Oke noted that even though he belonged to a different political party during Aregbesola’s tenure as governor, he still won elections due to the strong support of the people of Ijesa North. He further stated that Aregbesola has the ability to secure at least 20,000 votes in the Ife/Ijesa Senatorial District, proving his continued relevance in Osun politics.
Oke also pointed out that any politician who can consistently gather and mobilize supporters should not be overlooked. “Any politician who can invite 10 to 20 people to a meeting, feed them, and provide them with a token afterward should not be ignored,” he stated.
Concluding his remarks, Oke emphasized Aregbesola’s political strength and advised observers to monitor his impact leading up to 2026. “Baba Kabiru is a factor in Osun politics. Please keep this post and get back to me after 2026,” he wrote.
