Adeleke Has Lost Control of Osun, Giving False Hope To Residents – APC Chieftain

The security situation in Osun State has come under scrutiny following a series of violent communal clashes in various localities. Senator Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), sharply criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke on Tuesday, accusing him of losing control over the state’s security and being largely responsible for the unrest.

Communities in Osun such as Ifon, Ilobu, Ido-Osun, Ede, Esa-Oke, Iragbiji, and Igbajo have recently experienced violent conflicts, often related to disputes over chieftaincy titles and land boundaries. These clashes have resulted in killings, injuries, property damage, and widespread fear among residents. One particularly alarming incident occurred in Esa-Oke, where seven police officers were reportedly shot during a clash.

Basiru spoke to journalists in Osogbo, condemning the governor’s handling of the situation. He said, “The governor is only giving false hope to residents of the state he is in control but he is not. It is glaring that he is not with a series of communal clashes characterised by killing, maiming, arson, and loss of properties among others.” Basiru went on to argue that Adeleke’s approval of controversial chieftaincy matters had exacerbated tensions in these peaceful communities.

“The protection of lives and property should be paramount to any responsible government, but Adeleke has failed that,” Basiru stated. He continued by expressing confidence that the APC would take control in 2026 and bring peace back to Osun, referring to the state’s earlier days under progressive leadership.

In response to these claims, the Osun State Government, through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, rejected Basiru’s accusations. Alimi emphasized that Governor Adeleke is actively addressing the situation. He noted that the governor had visited the affected areas and established a panel of inquiry to resolve the issues. Alimi described Basiru’s remarks as “useless, fallacious and laughable,” asserting that Adeleke was not the cause of the ongoing crises.
