The Ogun State Government has condemned popular musician Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, for attacking state officials while they were carrying out their duties. The incident happened at Portable’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Sango Ota, where members of the State Planning and Development Permit Authority were reportedly assaulted.
In a statement on Friday, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described Portable as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal,” accusing him of repeatedly attacking government officials without reason. Akinmade called the latest attack “unacceptable and barbaric,” noting that the government would take legal action against the singer and his associates.
He also raised concerns over the rising pattern of disorder linked to the musician, saying his actions were causing distress among residents and challenging the government’s authority. Akinmade further stated that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun remains committed to enforcing the law and upholding values of decency and respect, including the “Omoluabi ethos” that represents the state’s cultural heritage.
“The way in which Portable and some set of miscreants he employed in the dastardly act attacked the officials of the OGPDPA is not only bizarre but a confirmation of erosion of Omoluabi ethos in those individuals and indeed a great disgrace to the state,” Akinmade stated.
He added that Governor Abiodun completely condemns the act and is determined to ensure that anyone violating the law faces consequences, regardless of their social status or influence.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has taken legal action against some individuals involved in the incident. On Thursday, nine of Portable’s associates were arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta. They were charged with felony, assault, and other offenses, following allegations that they attacked officials from the Ota Zonal Planning Office.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 28, pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include armed assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
