The Concerned Christian Youth Forum has confirmed that it was behind the petition against TikToker Ogunsanwo Olumide John, popularly known as Seaking. The group accused him of “insulting” the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, over comments made regarding the church leader’s annual 100-day fast.
The forum’s convener, Adama Paul James, made this known over the weekend, revealing that Seaking may appear in court soon. The social media personality was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos and later transferred to the Federal Investigation Department (FID) in Abuja for alleged cyberbullying. The FID is under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Dasuki Galandanchi.
The controversy began when Seaking posted a video in which he criticized Pastor Adeboye, calling him “very stupid and foolish” for introducing a yearly 100-day fasting program. The video sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting Seaking’s right to free speech while others condemned his remarks as disrespectful and offensive.
James noted that the TikToker’s words were an example of “brazen cyber harassment” and argued that such behavior disrespects elders and violates traditional values.
James said: “This act of brazen cyber harassment is not only reprehensible but also strikes at the heart of our cultural norms and values.
“It undermines the crucial principle of respect for elders that is deeply embedded in our society.
“The phenomenon of moral degeneration is reaching unprecedented levels, challenging the very fabric of our values.
“Christian leaders and elders deserve the utmost respect as they represent wisdom, experience, and our cultural legacy.
“This constitutes a grave violation of Nigerian cybercrime law, specifically Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2024, as amended, which criminalizes cyber harassment and makes it punishable by imprisonment.”
