Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has assured that his administration, in close partnership with the Federal Government, is committed to making Edo a leading example among Nigerian states.
Governor Okpebholo made this statement when he hosted the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, during her courtesy visit to the Edo State Government House in Benin City.
He noted that Edo State has witnessed significant development under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, adding that the president has taken a special interest in the state. The governor further stated that his administration would continue to work closely with the Federal Government to ensure more progress for Edo.
“As the governor, I promise that his administration will continue to work with the Federal Government to develop the state and make it the envy of all,” Okpebholo stated.
He expressed gratitude to the Accountant-General and acknowledged President Tinubu’s contributions to Edo, describing the state as part of the All Progressives Congress (APC) family despite its past status as an opposition state.
“A lot of development has come to Edo State, and we will make it the envy of all, and we trust God to direct our path as a state,” the governor added.
During the visit, Okpebholo also commended the Accountant-General’s professionalism and dedication to due process in financial management.
“The visit of the Accountant-General has brought back old memories as neighbors. She is a due process person, and as the Accountant-General of the Federation, she will continue to follow due process,” he said.
The governor further noted that Madein’s leadership had contributed to improvements in the financial system and described her as the right person for the job.
Earlier in the meeting, Madein explained that her visit was part of efforts to evaluate the Federal Pay Office in Edo State. She stated that her team was inspecting selected Federal Pay Offices across the six geopolitical zones, with Edo being the chosen location from its zone.
“We are constructing a building to house the Federal Pay Office in Edo State, which is a replica of the Treasury House of the Federal Government in the State,” Madein said.
She added that the Federal Pay Offices are responsible for managing treasury operations for federal institutions across the states.
