The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a security guard, Mohammed Adams, and his accomplice, Mastaudu Mohammed, for allegedly breaking into Shoppy Supermarket in Magboro and stealing goods worth ₦14 million.
CCTV footage captured Adams, who was employed as a night guard at the supermarket, unlocking the gate and allowing his gang members to enter and loot the store without obstruction.
The spokesperson for the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement released to journalists on Friday. She noted that the incident was reported by Adelanke Olalekan, the supermarket owner, at the Warewa Police Division, located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Olalekan explained that he received a call from So-Safe Corps personnel around 5:45 a.m., informing him that his supermarket in Oke-Afa had been burgled. Upon arriving at the scene, he discovered that his store had been broken into and that items worth millions had been stolen.
Odutola stated, “Upon receiving the report, the DPO mobilised his detectives to the scene, where CCTV footage was obtained. The footage revealed that the night guard, Mohammed Adams (male), who was assigned to secure the premises, had opened the gate for his accomplices, allowing them to gain access and successfully commit the crime.
“During interrogation, Adams confessed to masterminding the burglary. Further investigations led to the arrest of one Mastaudu Mohammed (male) in connection with the crime.”
Following the arrests, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has once again urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious. He noted that many crimes could be prevented if people take basic safety measures to protect their homes and businesses.
Ogunlowo also called on business owners to thoroughly screen employees before hiring them, especially those in security roles, to reduce the chances of internal betrayal.
