JUST IN: National Assembly Cancels Passage of 2025 Budget Over Errors

The National Assembly has reversed its earlier approval of the 2025 budget to address errors in the document. The decision affects the allocation of funds for capital and recurrent expenditures but does not change the overall budget size of ₦54.9 trillion.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had initially passed the budget bill on February 13, 2025. However, concerns were later raised about mistakes in some line items, prompting lawmakers to take another look at the figures.

A key adjustment in the revised budget is the shift of over ₦500 billion from capital expenditure to recurrent expenditure. This means that spending on infrastructure and development projects will now be ₦23.439 trillion, while the funds allocated for salaries, government operations, and other ongoing expenses have increased to ₦13.588 trillion.
