Fire Destroys Homes, Six Silos in Kano Community

A massive fire broke out in Satigal Community, Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State on Tuesday night, destroying several houses, six silos, and livestock.

The Rano Zonal Information Officer, Rabiu Khalil Kura, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, revealing that the fire caused significant damage to properties and food supplies.

“The incident was reported to the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umaru, at his palace,” the statement said.

The Village Head of Satigal, Malam Shuaibu Abdu, who led a group of community elders to inform the Emir, explained that the fire spread rapidly, affecting six households and resulting in the loss of valuable goods, grains, and cattle worth millions of naira.

Reports suggest that the fire was caused by an unattended cooking fire left burning by one of the affected families. The flames spread quickly, consuming everything in their path before residents could put it out.

The Emir of Rano, Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umaru, expressed his sympathy to the victims and donated N200,000 to help those affected. He urged residents to take extra precautions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“The monarch has promised to report the incident to the Kano State Emergency Relief Management Agency for immediate assistance,” the statement noted.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency had not yet received any official report regarding the fire.

“We are not aware of the incident as we have not received a report on the incident from the area,” Abdullahi stated.
