Speeding Driver Kills 12-Year-Old Girl, Injures Sister on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

A tragic accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway has claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl and left her 15-year-old sister injured after a speeding driver struck them while using the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released on Tuesday by its spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin. According to the statement, the accident happened on Monday at Ogundare bus stop around 3:35 p.m.

“On Monday, February 24, 2025, at about 3:35 p.m., a yet-to-be-identified driver, while plying the BRT lane at high speed at Ogundare bus stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, hit two female pedestrians, siblings aged 12 and 15, on their way back from school,” the statement read.

The driver, whose identity remains unknown, reportedly fled the scene after the incident. The police have launched an investigation to track down the suspect and ensure justice for the victims.
