JUST IN: Court Clears Naira Marley, Sam Larry in MohBad Case, Nurse to Face Trial

A Lagos Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, has acquitted Nigerian musician Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, along with three others, in connection to the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely called MohBad.

The ruling was delivered on Tuesday by Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje after reviewing the legal advice provided by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP). The court noted that there was no case against Naira Marley, music promoter Samson Balogun, also known as Sam Larry, singer Owodunni Ibrahim, called Primeboy, and MohBad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.

The four individuals had been in custody since late 2023 following allegations linking them to the circumstances surrounding MohBad’s sudden death in September. Their detention sparked public outcry, with fans and family members demanding justice for the late singer. However, after months of investigation, the DPP determined that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute them.

The DPP, however, said it shall be prosecuting the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and one of Mohbad’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq for the offence of reckless and negligent acts contrary to Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law, Ch C.17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
