Ekaette Akpabio, the wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed allegations of sexual harassment made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The claims were made by the Kogi Central senator during an interview with Arise Television, where she alleged that Akpabio made advances toward her and later blocked her motions in the Senate when she refused him.
Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that her refusal led to continuous harassment and efforts to tarnish her reputation. The allegations have sparked public debate, with different reactions from political figures and the public.
In response, Mrs. Akpabio addressed journalists at her Abuja residence on Friday, rejecting the allegations and describing them as completely false. She insisted that her husband is a disciplined man who respects women and has always supported their inclusion in governance.
She also noted that both families had maintained a cordial relationship over the years, which made the accusations even more surprising.
“The allegations are unfounded, as she was present at her family residence on the alleged date, 8th December 2023. Both families enjoy a long-standing cordial relationship that predates Senator Natasha’s marriage to her husband,” she said.
Mrs. Akpabio further stated that she would take legal action to address what she termed as a baseless accusation against her husband. She urged women to avoid making false claims, as it could damage reputations and distract from real issues affecting the country.
In addition, Akpabio’s media consultant, Kenny Okolugbo, also released a statement on behalf of the Senate President, denying the accusations. He maintained that the claims were without merit and should not be taken seriously.
