Nigeria’s power generation has reached 5,713.60 megawatts, marking the highest level recorded in the past four years. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
The TCN noted that this new peak was achieved at 9:30 PM on Tuesday, surpassing the 5,543.20MW recorded on February 14 by 170.40MW. While this figure is still 88MW lower than the all-time highest generation of 5,801.60MW recorded on March 1, 2021, it remains a significant milestone in the country’s power sector.
Additionally, the maximum daily energy generated also increased to 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh), breaking the previous record of 125,159.48MWh achieved last month. This represents a growth of 382.58MWh.
The report comes as Nigeria continues to struggle with power supply challenges. The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had earlier promised that power generation would rise to 6,000MW by December 2024. However, that goal was not met due to issues such as vandalism, grid failures, and inadequate infrastructure.
