Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has given his approval for the re-appointment of Adebayo Adegbola as the Eleruwa of Eruwaland. This was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, in a statement on Tuesday.
The monarch was originally installed in 1998 but was removed from the throne on November 29, 2019, following a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Since then, the position of Eleruwa had remained vacant due to ongoing legal battles.
Oyelade noted that the delay in filling the stool was mainly due to a recent legal case, specifically Suit Number HER/10/23, which was dismissed by the High Court of Oyo State on October 22. The legal situation left the Laribikusi ruling quarters unable to present candidates within the required timeframe, as outlined in Section 15(1) of the Chiefs Law Cap 28 of Oyo State.
Given the circumstances, the governor approved the Akalako ruling house as the next eligible family to put forward candidates for the position. After a selection process, the kingmakers of Eruwa came together and unanimously chose Adegbola from the Akalako ruling house to ascend the throne once again.
