The Kwara State Police Command has denied claims that bandits displaced from Zamfara State have migrated to Kwara. The police described the report, which has been widely shared on social media, as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, dismissed the claim, noting that there is no intelligence or operational report supporting such migration.
“The attention of the Kwara State Police Command has been drawn to a report alleging that bandits fleeing military offensives in Zamfara State have relocated to Banni town in Kwara State. The command categorically debunks this claim as false and misleading, a fabrication intended to cause unnecessary panic among residents. There is no intelligence or operational report to support the presence of armed bandits in Banni,” the statement read.
The police command explained that security agencies have been actively monitoring all parts of the state, and there has been no sign of bandit movement into Kwara. Officers and other security personnel are said to be on high alert to ensure the safety of residents.
Residents of Banni in the Kaiama Local Government Area were reportedly concerned after social media reports suggested that fleeing bandits from Zamfara had moved into their town. However, the police have assured the public that there is no cause for alarm, stating that security measures are in place to prevent any threats.
The Commissioner of Police urged the public to verify information before sharing it, warning that spreading false reports could cause unnecessary panic and tension in the state. He also reassured residents that Kwara remains safe, with law enforcement agencies working around the clock to maintain peace and order.
