Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick has expressed gratitude despite losing his bid for re-election to the FIFA Council.
At the Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Assembly in Cairo, Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi won the last available seat with 29 votes, narrowly beating Pinnick, who secured 28.
In a statement, Pinnick reflected on his football administration journey, stating, “I never dreamed of reaching these heights.” He noted that while football politics can be tough, he remains grateful for the support he received.
He thanked President Bola Tinubu, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, and NFF President Ibrahim Gusau for their backing. Despite the loss, Pinnick said he is proud of his achievements, including serving as NFF President and a CAF Vice President. He affirmed his commitment to football development, stating he remains fulfilled and unbowed.
