Police operatives in Abia and Nasarawa states successfully rescued four kidnapped victims and took down seven criminals, including a well-known kidnapping leader called ‘Honor,’ in separate operations.
The Force Public Relations Officer confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the operations also led to the recovery of several weapons and ammunition. Some suspects managed to escape, but they were injured by gunfire.
In Abia State, the police received reports on March 9, 2025, that four people had been kidnapped while driving a Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road in Obingwa. Acting on intelligence, officers tracked the kidnappers to a three-bedroom bungalow in Osokwa, Osisioma Local Government Area (LGA). On March 14, police launched an operation to rescue the victims.
A gunfight broke out between the kidnappers and security operatives, leading to the deaths of six criminals. The victims were found unharmed and later taken to a police hospital for medical checkups. Security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 34 rounds of live ammunition from the scene.
Meanwhile, in Nasarawa State, a joint operation involving police officers, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilantes targeted ‘Honor,’ a wanted kidnapper. He was located in Akwanga and intercepted near the Akwanga Central Mosque while trying to escape on a motorcycle.
The suspect resisted arrest and attempted to use a firearm, but security operatives quickly neutralized him. Authorities recovered a Beretta pistol and 12 rounds of 9mm live ammunition. One of his accomplices managed to escape with gunshot wounds, and security forces are currently searching for him.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun praised the officers involved, noting that the police force remains committed to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes.
“These recent operations underscore the resilience of the Nigeria Police Force in combating criminality. We remain dedicated to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of all citizens,” the IGP stated.
