Kano Govt Plans Pay Parade System to Tackle Salary Irregularities

The Kano State government is set to introduce a pay parade system across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure transparency in salary payments and verify the actual number of civil servants on its payroll.

Governor Abba Yusuf announced the plan on Monday while receiving a report from a special committee led by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruq. The committee was tasked with investigating irregular salary payments affecting civil servants in the state.

In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, Governor Yusuf assured workers that his administration would put an end to unauthorized salary deductions that have been affecting their earnings. He noted that the government remains committed to ensuring timely and complete salary payments.

“I assured civil servants during my campaign that illegal deductions and underpayments would not be tolerated. It is disheartening that these issues persist, but we are taking decisive steps to address them,” he declared.

Governor Yusuf also praised the investigative committee for its detailed work, promising to carefully study and implement its recommendations. He reassured workers that any policies negatively impacting their welfare would be adjusted.

The governor expressed concern over inconsistencies in salary payments, which he attributed to consulting firms hired by the previous administration. He pledged to address these issues to ensure efficiency in salary disbursement.

To implement the new pay parade system, the governor said a high-powered committee would be established to oversee the process. The move is expected to improve transparency and eliminate errors in salary payments.

“We will establish a high-powered committee to oversee the implementation of the pay parade system and ensure transparency in salary payments. Additionally, deductions linked to the National Housing Fund and other schemes will be thoroughly examined,” he added.
