The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocated to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its national secretariat in Abuja.
The revocation notice, dated March 13, 2025, was titled “Notice of right of occupancy with file no: MISC 81346 in respect of plot no: 243 within central area district, Abuja.” The letter was signed by the Director of Land Administration (FCT), Chijioke Nwankwoeze.
The decision was based on the PDP’s failure to pay annual ground rent for the property over the past 20 years, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025. The letter noted that despite multiple reminders through national newspapers and electronic media, the party did not clear its outstanding bills.
In the official notice, Wike stated:
“I have been directed to refer to the above Right of Occupancy granted to PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP), NATIONAL SECRETARIAT and inform you that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory has in the exercise of powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap. L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, revoked your rights, interests, and privileges over Plot No. 243 within Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja.”
The letter further explained that PDP’s failure to settle its dues violated the conditions attached to the land allocation. According to Wike, the breach of payment terms is a direct violation of Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.
The FCT Administration had issued repeated public notices since 2023, urging all landowners in Abuja to clear their outstanding rents. However, PDP reportedly did not comply.
With the revocation now in effect, Wike stated that the FCTA would take possession of the PDP secretariat land until all outstanding payments are made.
