The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has voiced strong concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
The president made the announcement during a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday evening, suspending Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and members of the state House of Assembly. As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas as the state administrator to oversee governance.
Reacting to the development, PANDEF’s National Spokesman, Obiuwevbi Ominimini, said the group was deeply concerned about the decision and was closely monitoring the situation.
“PANDEF is seriously alarmed by the state of emergency declared in Rivers State due to a crisis that is ordinarily avoidable.
“We are therefore studying the situation and we shall soon come up with PANDEF’s position,” he said.
