Jide Kosoko Speaks on Sex-for-Roles in Nollywood, Says Some Actresses Join Industry for It

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has shared his thoughts on the long-debated issue of sex-for-roles in the Nigerian movie industry. During an appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, Kosoko claimed that some actresses intentionally join Nollywood with the aim of using sexual relationships to advance their careers.

The seasoned actor noted that while many believe that directors and producers are solely responsible for such situations, some actresses willingly seek these encounters as a means to gain fame and recognition.

Kosoko dismissed the widespread notion that actresses are always forced into compromising situations, stating that no one can be compelled to engage in such acts unless they choose to do so.

“If I said I need you to warm my bed so that I can give you a role, and you said no, they cannot force you to do it. And if you want that role by all means, that means you want to dance to his tone,” he said.

He added that while it is wrong for anyone to request sexual favors in exchange for movie roles, those who agree to it do so of their own free will. According to him, some women enter the industry already determined to use such methods to rise to fame.

“All this sex for roles thing, forget about it. I know some ladies that equally come into the industry with the determination that, by the time ‘I sleep with this and sleep with that, I will get my name,” he stated.

Kosoko further revealed that he is aware of some popular actresses who have followed this path. He even mentioned knowing a magistrate who had taken similar steps to achieve success.
