25-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide in Osun over Hardship

A 25-year-old man, Joseph Abodunrin, has died by suicide in the Dagbolu community of Osogbo Local Government Area, Osun State. His tragic death has sparked conversations about mental health and the increasing financial hardships in the country.

Joseph’s passing was confirmed on Thursday by a family member, Abodunrin Grace, who shared the heartbreaking news on her X (formerly Twitter) account. In her post, she described him as a caring brother who always encouraged others despite battling his own struggles.

“I still feel shattered, many words but unprocessed. You were the best brother. You encouraged us all, but you went to voice out in a space we couldn’t think of. You hid it all from us. You went about with fake laughter and smiles. Now we can’t get over it,” she wrote.

She further urged people to prioritize their mental well-being, stressing that everyone is struggling in different ways.

Joseph had been vocal about his struggles on social media. In a tweet dated January 31, 2025, he revealed that the only thing stopping him from taking his life was his love for his younger siblings. “If not for my siblings, I would not commit suicide. Those younglings are still full of optimism, hope, and dreams that I don’t want to squash with the news of my death,” he wrote.

However, on March 24, the day he took his life, he posted a series of emotional tweets, suggesting he had lost the will to continue. In one of his final messages, he wrote, “I’m sorry I failed you guys, I couldn’t just do it anymore… No matter how I explain it. You won’t understand!!!”

He also left behind a farewell note, urging others to keep fighting for their dreams and expressing gratitude for the life he lived.

His previous tweets showed he had been questioning his existence for some time. On March 9, he asked why he should continue living when he had no meaningful answers. He spoke about struggling with factors beyond his control, including genetics and upbringing, and said he had tried seeking help but felt it only made things worse.

Despite sharing the location of his suicide, his body had not yet been recovered at the time of this report. Interestingly, the location he mentioned, ‘Dagbolu,’ was reportedly no longer active.

When contacted, Osun State Police spokesperson ASP Akeem Adeoye said he was not aware of the incident but promised to provide updates if any new information emerged.

Joseph had recently celebrated his 25th birthday on February 6, 2025.
