Former Rivers State Head of Service (HoS), George Nwaeke, has denied allegations made by his wife, Florence Nwaeke, that he was kidnapped. Instead, he stated that he is in Abuja, where he voluntarily went to meet with security agencies regarding political developments in Rivers State.
In a video released early Saturday, Nwaeke refuted his wife’s claims, suggesting that she had been misinformed and given a script to read.
“I am in TRANSCORP Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet security agencies and report myself, as well as the troubling events happening in Rivers State. I resigned as Head of Service on Monday because of these developments,” he said.
Addressing the viral video of his wife raising alarm over his alleged abduction, Nwaeke stated, “I just saw a video of my wife trending. She was told I had been kidnapped and given a script to read. I want to make it clear—I am not kidnapped. I am in Abuja, working.
“When I was Head of Service, my wife was not involved in my official duties. That script she read is null and void. I am safe and sound. I will report myself to the appropriate security agencies because Abuja houses their headquarters, and I feel safer making my report here.”
Meanwhile, Florence Nwaeke had earlier expressed serious concern over her husband’s safety in an emotional interview on Friday. She noted that he had called to confirm his arrival in Abuja but later appeared in an online interview that she found suspicious.
“I said, ‘That is not my husband. That is not my husband,’” she recalled.
She also shared her struggle to reach him, saying, “I sent him a message: ‘Are you under duress? Have they kidnapped you? Talk to me now. Why are you not responding?’ But he didn’t reply. His numbers are not going through. Nigerians, help me!”
The situation escalated after Nwaeke made serious allegations against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He publicly accused the governor of being behind the 2023 bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly, allegedly to prevent his impeachment.
Nwaeke further claimed that he personally witnessed a bag of money being handed over to the former Assembly leader, Edison Ehie, who now serves as Fubara’s Chief of Staff, to carry out the attack on the Assembly Complex along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
