Trump Clarifies New Tariffs on Nigeria, China and Others

U.S. President Donald Trump has defended his latest move to increase tariffs on imports from several countries, including Nigeria and China. Trump said the step is part of his effort to bring back economic power to the United States, which he believes has been taken advantage of by foreign nations for many years.

On Monday, Trump unveiled a broad range of tariffs on goods coming into the U.S., touching several industries. Products such as oil, leather, and agricultural goods are among those affected. Nigeria is one of the countries impacted by these new tariffs, alongside China, which has often been at the center of Trump’s trade criticism.

In a message posted to his social media page, Trump stated, “Oil prices are down, interest rates are down (the slow moving Fed should cut rates!), food prices are down, there is no inflation, and the long time abused USA is bringing in Billions of Dollars a week from the abusing countries on Tariffs that are already in place.”

He continued by accusing China of raising its own tariffs, calling it “the biggest abuser of them all.” He claimed that China’s market is in decline and added, “They’ve made enough, for decades, taking advantage of the Good OL’ USA!”

Trump also directed blame at earlier U.S. administrations, saying, “Our past ‘leaders’ are to blame for allowing this, and so much else, to happen to our Country. Make America great again!”
