A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu assisted his daughter in securing employment at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Galadima made this disclosure on Wednesday during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT). Despite his longstanding criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the former ally of President Muhammadu Buhari stated that he remains on good terms with Tinubu.
According to Galadima, the gesture from the President came after his daughter reached out to Tinubu directly, using his mobile phone. The President reportedly believed he was speaking with Galadima himself, but instead found himself conversing with his children.
“We are friends and will continue to be friends. If I want anything from him, I can ask. Let me confess on national television. My daughter used my phone to call the President and the President picked up the call thinking it was me. And they said they are my children and that they are calling him because the country is hard,” Galadima said during the programme.
The NNPP leader explained that his daughter mentioned her difficulty in finding a job after completing her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). She told Tinubu that her father was unable to assist and reminded him that Galadima had spoken of their friendship. In response, Tinubu reportedly instructed the head of NUPRC, Gbenga Komolafe, to offer her a position.
“They told Tinubu that ‘our father cannot do this for us and he told us that you are his friend.’ The little one said she just finished the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), she could not get a job with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) headed by Gbenga Komolafe. He (Tinubu) just asked, ‘call Komolafe’, go and give my friend’s daughter job’. That is why she wants to go to Mecca to thank God and to thank even Mr President,” Galadima added.
In a further comment, Galadima claimed that his daughter had previously worked for the Buhari administration without receiving any salary during her time in Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s office. He challenged anyone to present proof of payment if they believed otherwise.
“My daughter worked for him for four years and he instructed that she should not be paid salary. Let them bring any voucher where she was paid. She worked for Buhari for four years in Osinbajo’s office without payment,” he said.
