One person has been confirmed dead following a tragic accident that occurred late Thursday night on the busy Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have confirmed.
According to an update shared on LASTMA’s official X account, the accident happened near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Waterfront, on the section of the bridge heading toward Adekunle. The report notes that the accident involved a single vehicle — a mini truck loaded with goods — that apparently lost control before crashing.
Eyewitnesses who passed the scene shortly after the crash described it as severe. The mini truck reportedly flipped or veered off its lane, leading to the fatal result. The reason behind the loss of control is still being investigated, but authorities suggest that overspeeding or mechanical failure might have played a role.
Traffic officials quickly arrived at the scene to manage congestion and clear the wreckage. Emergency responders were also on ground to offer assistance. Unfortunately, the accident claimed one life. The identity of the deceased has not been released as authorities work to notify next of kin.
