The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended two individuals, Yahaya Mustapha, 28, and Bello Yakubu, 38, for their involvement in the theft of electric cables in the state. The two suspects, who are residents of Takari Ward in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area, were taken into custody following their alleged criminal activities.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, on Sunday, April 13, 2025, the arrests were made on April 12, 2025, around 1:00 pm. The suspects were caught by the police at the Karasuwa Headquarters Divisional Police Station while they were loading a substantial amount of dismantled electric power transmission cables onto a tricycle. This occurred in Waro Village, located within Karasuwa Local Government Area.
The police have commenced investigations into the case, working diligently to identify the source of the stolen cables and those behind the vandalism. This marks a significant development as electric cable theft and infrastructure vandalism have been persistent issues in the region, affecting local communities and causing power shortages.
In a separate incident, the police made another discovery related to electricity cable theft. During a routine patrol, officers from the ‘B’ Divisional Police Headquarters found an electricity service wire hidden in an isolated area of Maisandari ward in Damaturu. This wire is suspected to have been recently vandalized.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, reiterated the command’s commitment to addressing crime and vandalism in the region. He urged community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or individuals around public infrastructure.
CP Ado also praised the public for providing reliable information that has significantly aided law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to fight crime. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining the safety and security of public infrastructure.
