Plateau Killings Not Mere Communal Clashes – Jang Warns

Former Governor of Plateau State, Da Jonah David Jang, has openly spoken against the ongoing killings in the state, describing them not as mere communal clashes but as part of a more dangerous and organized plot by a specific group. Jang, who also once served as Senator for Plateau North, issued a strong statement from Jos on Tuesday, where he shared his deep sorrow over the continuous violence that has claimed over 100 lives in just one week.

In his remarks, Jang sent his heartfelt condolences to all affected communities across the state. He also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent steps by holding a wider meeting with local and traditional leaders. According to Jang, this meeting is necessary for the President to fully understand the depth and seriousness of what is happening on the Plateau.

“Let’s call a spade a spade,” Jang said. “These senseless killings have caused pain and suffering for our great State and its people, and we must take immediate action to put an end to this violence.”

While appreciating Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s continuous efforts in managing the crisis, Jang also noted President Tinubu’s interest in ending the bloodshed. However, he strongly disagreed with the description of the attacks as “communal clashes” in a recent presidential directive. He pointed out that such a label was based on misleading reports.

“The attacks in Plateau State are not merely communal disputes; they are perpetrated by a known group with a specific agenda,” Jang said, urging the federal government to recognize the true nature of these attacks.

He noted that for any real solution to happen, the federal government must go beyond labels and understand the full picture. He advised the President to meet with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community heads across affected areas.

Jang believes that such a gathering would help present accurate reports and lived experiences from the grassroots, which will in turn guide the government in making informed and effective decisions.

He further urged the people of Plateau to stay strong and united in the face of ongoing hardship. According to him, citizens should not just rely on government efforts but should also take steps to protect their communities and ask for justice.

“As peace-loving and welcoming citizens, we have endured enough. It is time for us to defend ourselves against these aggressors,” Jang declared.
