‘We Failed You, Forgive Me,’ Plateau Governor Mutfwang Apologises After Deadly Attack

Following the recent killings that left over 50 people dead in Zikke, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has publicly apologised to residents and grieving families.

He admitted that the government did not succeed in its duty to protect them.

During a visit on Tuesday to the palace of the paramount ruler of Miango, the governor, filled with emotion, addressed a gathering of mourning residents. The visit came a day after the brutal killings that happened in the early hours of Monday, April 14.

“I will tell you the truth: I have been crying since yesterday because I had trusted God that all the arrangements were put in place, that this will not happen again. We have made investments in security.

“But like all human arrangements, sometimes they fail. I want to admit that on Sunday night into Monday morning, we failed you. Please, forgive me,” Mutfwang stated.

This recent attack comes just weeks after another violent assault in Bokkos Local Government Area, where many people also lost their lives. These repeated attacks have made many residents anxious and uncertain about their safety.

Governor Mutfwang, during his address, noted that despite all efforts made to improve security, there are still clear weaknesses. He urged people to remain alert, support the authorities, and help in providing useful information that could prevent future attacks.

“We must not give up,” he added, calling for unity among the people to stand strong in these trying times.

The governor also visited families who were directly affected by the Zikke attack, offering words of comfort. He assured them that his administration would not abandon them.
