JUST IN: Panic as Suspected Herdsmen Attack Benue Community, Many Feared Dead

Panic has gripped the Otobi-Akpa community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State following a violent attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Tuesday evening.

Residents told reporters the attackers arrived around 6 p.m., opening fire on villagers and setting homes on fire. “They have been shooting and killing people since 6 pm. As we speak, our house and several others have been burnt down. We are helpless,” one resident said.

Although the full scale of the tragedy is still unfolding, eyewitnesses report multiple deaths and widespread destruction. Many families have fled the area in fear, leaving the village nearly deserted.

As of the time of this report, local authorities had yet to confirm casualty figures, but emergency response efforts are expected to begin once the area is secure.
