No Fulani Herders Attack in Enugu – Police Deny Reports of Violence

The Enugu State Police Command has strongly denied claims that Fulani herders attacked villages in the state, killing around 25 people. These reports, which have been circulating in some media outlets, allege a wave of violence in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, but the police say no such events took place.

Speaking on behalf of the command, spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe described the reports as completely false and misleading. He noted that their investigations found no evidence to support the claims.

According to him, “The report is speculative and lacks credibility, particularly in its use of vague terms such as ‘at least’, which have no place in factual journalism.”

The controversial news stories claimed that residents in the affected communities were fleeing their homes due to fear and insecurity, relocating to neighbouring Anambra and Kogi States. However, Ndukwe noted that these stories were not only inaccurate but also featured made-up names and events that never occurred.

He added that the reports seem to be a deliberate attempt to stir panic and distrust among residents, warning the public against accepting unverified information. “It is a calculated attempt to misinform the public and undermine the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace and security in the state,” he said.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, also reacted to the situation. He was quoted condemning the spread of “inaccurate, mischievous and baseless reports designed to mislead and cause unnecessary panic.”

Ndukwe reiterated the command’s dedication to keeping Enugu safe, stressing that the security situation remains calm and under control. He encouraged the public to stay calm, trust the police, and avoid spreading false reports that could damage the peace in the state.
