The Katsina State Police Command has revealed that its operatives rejected a N1 million bribe offered by suspected car thieves who were caught with a stolen vehicle. The two suspects, identified as Mubarak Kabir, 26, and Adamu Hashim, 27, were arrested by officers from the Border Patrol team during a routine patrol.
The patrol took place on April 11, 2025, around 3:00 p.m. in the Birnin Kuka village, located in Mashi Local Government Area of Katsina State. The officers stopped a green Toyota Corolla LE, which was being driven by the suspects, both residents of Kurna quarters in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to a statement issued by the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, “During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the said vehicle was reportedly stolen from FCT Abuja.”
When questioned by the police, the suspects reportedly attempted to bribe the officers with N1 million in cash in a bid to avoid arrest. The officers, however, rejected the bribe and proceeded with the arrest.
“The suspects then offered a bribe of N1m cash to the patrol team to evade justice, which the officers sternly rejected. The suspects are in custody,” the statement read.
In addition to the stolen vehicle and the cash, police recovered three mobile phones, a power bank, and a bunch of keys from the suspects. These items have been documented as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Katsina, CP Bello Shehu, noted the integrity shown by the officers involved. He also restated the police command’s continued dedication to protecting lives and property within the state.
“He reaffirmed the command’s commitment and dedication towards protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Katsina State while maintaining a high level of integrity and respect for human rights,” the statement added.
