The Ondo Police Command has addressed recent reports of a kidnapping incident in Ofosu, along the Lagos-Ore road in Ondo State, stating that the event actually took place in Edo State.
In a statement released on Thursday, the command clarified that the alleged kidnapping did not occur within Ondo State boundaries. According to DSP Ayanlade Olushola, the Police Public Relations Officer, investigations confirmed that the incident happened in Ugbogui, a community near Ohosu along the Benin-Okada road in Edo State.
“After a thorough investigation in collaboration with local authorities, it has been confirmed that the incident in question did not occur in Ofosu nor on Lagos Ore road, Ondo State, as reported,” said Olushola.
The police urged media outlets to verify information before publication to prevent unnecessary panic among residents. “We urge the public and media organisations to ensure proper verification of facts before publication to prevent misinformation and unnecessary panic among residents,” Olushola stated.
Reassuring the public, the Ondo State Police Command affirmed its commitment to the safety and security of residents. “The Ondo State Police Command remains committed to the safety and security of residents of Ondo State and will continue to collaborate closely with local authorities and other law enforcement agencies to maintain peace across all communities within the state,” the statement read.
