The former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the 2026 governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District.
Owoeye made this appeal during the launch of the Ambo Movement, a volunteer group advocating for the candidacy of Bola Oyebamiji, the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, in the upcoming governorship race.
In his speech, Owoeye praised the leadership of the former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, who is also the current Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, noting his significant role in maintaining unity and peace within the APC in the state. He credited Oyetola’s resilience and commitment as essential factors in keeping the party together and ensuring the ongoing success of their collective efforts.
Owoeye emphasized the importance of the party’s unity, saying, “If not for him, what we are doing today may not be possible, because we noticed the unity, cohesion, and togetherness within the party that is why we are here today.” He encouraged all party members to continue working in harmony to achieve their common goals and take back control in the next governorship election.
The former speaker further urged the APC leadership to prioritize fairness and justice in their decision regarding the zoning of the governorship ticket. According to Owoeye, it is the turn of Osun West to produce the next governor, as the Osun Central Senatorial District held the position for 16 years, and the Osun East District had its turn for eight years.
Owoeye specifically pointed to Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji as the ideal candidate for the party’s governorship ticket. “The best choice is Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The choice is noble and painstaking,” Owoeye noted, expressing his confidence in Oyebamiji’s qualifications and leadership potential.
Dr. Tunde Faleye, the founder of the Falex Foundation and the initiator of the Ambo Movement, also addressed the crowd, emphasizing the need for the APC to present a strong candidate for the 2026 governorship election. Faleye rallied the crowd, calling for party members to unite in support of Oyebamiji, stating, “We are using this opportunity to let the people know that on our own, we are supporting Oyebamiji to run for governor. He has the capability, competence, and capacity to steer the ship of the state to the promised land.”
He concluded by urging party members to come together to work towards reclaiming governance from the current administration. The Osun West Senatorial District, which includes areas such as Ayedaade, Aiyedire, and Ede South, remains a key region in the state’s political landscape as the 2026 election approaches.
