Don’t Play the Role of God – Bakare Warns Tinubu

Pastor Tunde Bakare, Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to abandon what he described as a “God-like” approach to governance. Speaking during a State of the Nation address held at the CGCC auditorium in Ikeja, Lagos, Bakare called for humility from those in power and warned that the country is heading in the wrong direction.

In his words, Bakare said plainly, “Stop playing God.” He went on to explain that while he does not share Tinubu’s political vision or methods, he harbors no ill will and does not desire the President’s failure.

“The current administration is steering the polity adrift,” Bakare warned. “It is time for this government to embrace humility.”

He noted that the purpose of his message was not to attack or condemn, but to redirect the nation’s leadership and encourage a better course of action. According to him, Nigeria’s leaders must not forget that they are servants of the people, not rulers above them.

The pastor also raised concerns about the state of Nigeria’s democracy, particularly the role of the National Assembly. He described the legislative arm as a “crumbling pillar” under Tinubu’s rule, suggesting that it has lost its strength and independence.

Bakare specifically criticized the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stating that her removal from the Senate was unjust and appeared to be a punishment for demanding transparency and accountability.

He directed his concerns toward Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urging him to offer a clear explanation for the suspension and to uphold the values of democracy.

“Nigerians are watching,” Bakare noted. “The time has come for those in leadership to do what is right, not what is convenient.”
