The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that the death toll from the building collapse in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos has now reached five. This tragic incident occurred on Saturday, when a three-storey building located at 9 & 10 Oremeta Street caved in, trapping both restaurant staff and customers under the rubble.
Initially, LASEMA reported that one person had died and nine others were injured. However, a more recent update provided by Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye from the Lagos Territorial Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) revealed a grim increase in casualties. Farinloye confirmed that five people have now been confirmed dead, while 15 individuals were rescued from the collapsed structure.
The five confirmed fatalities include two adult males and three adult females, according to Farinloye’s statement. The rescued survivors, who are in various conditions, include six adult females and nine adult males. The rescue operations, which continued throughout the day, were coordinated by emergency responders working tirelessly to recover more survivors.
