Legendary musician, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has set the record straight after a false rumour about his death made waves on social media. The 82-year-old music icon appeared in a video early Tuesday morning to confirm he is alive, healthy, and very much active.
The rumour, which began spreading late Monday, led to confusion and sorrow among fans and admirers. Many began posting tributes and messages of condolences, believing the veteran singer had passed away.
However, Obey-Fabiyi quickly addressed the situation with a personal video message. In the clip, he performed a song to clear the air, blending Yoruba, English, and Pidgin languages to deliver his message with energy and humor.
He sang, “Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o, Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka.”
Following the song, he added, “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written.”
The video quickly went viral, this time bringing relief and joy to his supporters. Many took to social media to share the clip, expressing their happiness that the music legend is still with them.
Obey-Fabiyi, also known as “Chief Commander,” has enjoyed a long and successful career in Nigerian music, especially known for his Juju music style. He is not only respected for his contributions to the industry but also for his spiritual journey, having become an evangelist in recent years.
A close associate noted that Obey-Fabiyi is doing well and remains strong. “He is fine and full of life. People should always verify before spreading such serious news,” the source said.
