The Nigeria Customs Service has announced a revenue collection of N1.751 trillion for the first quarter of 2025, marking a strong start to the year for the agency. Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi made this known during a media briefing held in Abuja on Tuesday, where he said the figure exceeded their quarterly target.
Speaking at the press event, Adeniyi noted that the impressive performance was a result of strategic reforms in the service, alongside increased vigilance and technology-driven operations. He also pointed out that the agency is actively working to improve transparency and ensure that Nigerians are kept informed about its activities.
“We believe the public has the right to know what is happening in the Nigeria Customs,” he stated, adding, “I am pleased to report N1.751 trillion revenue collection in the first quarter of 2025.”
Beyond revenue generation, the Customs boss also gave an update on the agency’s anti-smuggling efforts. According to him, a total of 201 seizures were made between January and March this year, with an estimated value of N7.7 billion. These included various contraband goods intercepted at different border points and ports across the country.
Adeniyi further noted that the service is determined to reduce illegal trade activities that affect Nigeria’s economy. He explained that the Customs has adopted a more proactive approach by using intelligence and surveillance to track suspicious movements and intercept smuggled goods.
