Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olabode George, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to exit the party without delay due to what he described as ongoing anti-party activities.
He made these remarks while reacting to the growing public closeness between the two politicians and leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). George said their actions were not only embarrassing to the PDP but also dangerous for the party’s future.
“What exactly is going on? Anybody who is tired of PDP should leave and join another party. Enough of this embarrassment,” George said, expressing disappointment at recent events involving Atiku and Wike. He questioned their loyalty to the PDP, particularly after Atiku’s recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari and Wike’s open cooperation with President Bola Tinubu.
“Wike has been given a direct order to win FCT for APC and he still claims to be a member of PDP,” George noted, asking why the party’s leadership continued to tolerate such behavior.
He went on to accuse the two men of undermining the PDP from within, saying they could not continue to act in opposition to party interests while claiming membership. He said Wike’s media appearances often involve direct criticism of the PDP and called his conduct “a clear anti-party activity.”
George also warned that some PDP governors were aligning with Tinubu’s 2027 reelection plans, further deepening the crisis. He called on party elders to act swiftly to preserve the PDP’s identity and discipline.
“This is the time to save our party from those undermining PDP from within,” he said. “If Atiku is strategising on how to form a coalition with others because of 2027, he should do that outside the structure of our party.”
Switching focus to national issues, George urged President Tinubu to address insecurity in the country, especially in Benue and Plateau states. “Insurrection, insurgency, kidnappings, killings and corruption have taken over the land. As the Commander-in-Chief, what exactly is Tinubu doing to reverse this ugly trend?”
He also raised concerns over the banking sector, questioning how managing directors of Nigerian banks could afford lavish lifestyles, including private jets. George suggested the creation of a special fund into which each bank should contribute N20 billion yearly to help ease the hardship Nigerians are facing.
According to him, “There is what is called round-tripping. There is also insider abuse, hidden and fraudulent charges. All these are targeted at Nigerians.”
