Robbery Suspect Killed During Gun Battle With Police in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that a robbery suspect, Halifa Baba-Beru, died after a gunfight with law enforcement officers at Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area.

The clash occurred on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, around 1:00 p.m., following a distress call received by the police regarding a robbery in progress. Officers from the command quickly responded to the alert and headed to the scene.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the robbery suspects opened fire as soon as they saw the police approaching. This led to a heated exchange of gunshots between the robbers and the police team.

During the shootout, two officers — Corporal Abdullahi Ibrahim and Sergeant Yahaya Saidu — were injured. The gang leader, Halifa Baba-Beru, was also shot during the exchange. All the injured were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for treatment.

While the two police officers received medical care and were later discharged, Baba-Beru died from the wounds he sustained.

The police have now started a thorough investigation into the incident and are working to capture other members of the gang who managed to escape during the chaos.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, noted the bravery and fast response of the officers who were part of the operation. He commended their courage in confronting the armed criminals.

He also urged the public to remain alert and share any useful information that could help in arresting the remaining suspects.

“The success of our operations depends greatly on timely and accurate information from the public,” the CP said.
