Seven Killed, Others Missing as Suspected Herdsmen Attack Benue Community at Midnight

Seven people, including women and children, were confirmed dead following a deadly midnight attack on Agbo Vengav community in Udam, located within Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 25, 2025, has once again thrown the state into mourning as residents of the area woke to find the aftermath of what locals described as a sudden and brutal assault. According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers stormed the village at about 1:00 a.m., when most people were asleep.

A local resident, who chose not to be named, told DAILY POST that the gunmen believed to be Fulani herdsmen, invaded the area in large numbers and started shooting indiscriminately. “The attack on the community started around 1:00 am on Friday; the number of bodies recovered was seven and a search for missing people was still ongoing,” the source revealed.
