Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly on the verge of taking over as Brazil’s new national team boss, according to multiple media sources in Spain.
The Italian manager, who still has a year left on his current contract with the Spanish club, is expected to step down following a disappointing season that saw Madrid eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Arsenal and knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Barcelona.
Ancelotti, a highly experienced and well-respected coach, has not ruled out the idea of leaving. After the recent loss to Barcelona, he admitted his future with the club was uncertain, saying: “It’s a topic for the next weeks.”
Reports suggest that Ancelotti will assume his new role before Brazil begins its 2026 World Cup qualifying matches in June. This would mean he exits Madrid before the FIFA Club World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the United States later this summer.
The Brazilian Football Confederation is currently searching for new leadership after parting ways with Dorival Junior in March, following a painful 4-1 loss to Argentina. The defeat left Brazil sitting in fourth place in the South American qualifying table. With pressure mounting, the arrival of Ancelotti is seen as a move to restore stability and bring success back to the Seleção.
Ancelotti’s connection with Brazil is already well established. He has worked closely with key Brazilian players like Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes during his time at Real Madrid. Both players have played important roles in Madrid’s recent campaigns.
Under Ancelotti, Real Madrid won the Champions League and La Liga double last season. He also guided the club to its 10th Champions League title—La Decima—during his first stint, and later returned in 2021 after Zinedine Zidane’s departure. Across both periods, he has lifted Europe’s top club trophy three times with Madrid.
