A popular Lagos socialite, Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, better known as E-Money, has been taken into custody by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly abusing the Naira note.
The arrest took place on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos. Authorities say that E-Money’s actions involved a violation of the Foreign Exchange Act, with reports indicating that he was involved in spraying U.S. dollars in a public setting.
Sources from within the EFCC confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, noting that the socialite’s actions have raised significant concern, as they were seen as a direct violation of currency laws.
One source stated, “On Monday night, we arrested E-Money for Naira abuse and defacing foreign currencies. Specifically, he was alleged to have sprayed U.S. dollars, which is against the Foreign Exchange Act.”
