Police Launch Specialised Capacity-building Training for Officers in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has officially launched a specialised capacity-building training programme aimed at strengthening the skills of officers within its Criminal Investigation Department (CID). This initiative, which kicked off on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, is part of a larger effort directed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to equip police personnel with advanced skills necessary for effective investigations and prosecutions.

According to a statement from the Kano State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the training programme is designed to develop a highly skilled and motivated police force capable of addressing modern-day security challenges effectively. The course will focus on several key areas, including the elimination of corruption, reducing extortion, preventing unethical conduct within the police force, and raising awareness about cybersecurity.

The Commissioner of Police for Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the experts who were involved in the training and encouraged officers to take full advantage of the opportunity to improve their investigative abilities. He pointed out that the training programme was not just an opportunity for new learning, but also a chance to refresh and update existing knowledge in the rapidly evolving field of policing.

“This is not only a chance to learn but to refresh your knowledge and embrace new developments in the field,” said CP Bakori.

During the event, CP Bakori was honoured with an award from the Cyber-Safe Youth Initiative for his exceptional contributions towards promoting digital security within the police force. The Commissioner dedicated the award to the dedicated officers and personnel at the Kano Command, noting that their hard work continues to drive efforts in addressing emerging security threats.

CP Bakori further noted that similar training sessions would be organised regularly across various departments to ensure that officers remain up to date with the latest policing techniques and technological advancements. He emphasised that these ongoing initiatives are crucial in strengthening the investigative capacity of the force, ultimately ensuring a safer environment for all citizens.
