May Day: Justice Will Prevail in Rivers Political Crisis, Says Fubara

As Nigeria marks Workers’ Day 2025, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence that the ongoing political conflict in the state will be resolved through justice and peace.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Nelson Chukwudi, on Thursday, Fubara noted that despite the tension caused by the recent political developments and the declaration of emergency rule, the people of Rivers State must remain hopeful. He encouraged unity among the citizens, stressing that progress cannot be achieved without peace and collective strength.

“The forces of justice, peace, and progress will prevail in the end in the state,” the statement read.

Fubara used the occasion of May Day to applaud the workers of Rivers State. He acknowledged their resilience and determination even during this period of political unrest. According to him, the dedication shown by workers is a clear sign of their commitment to the growth and future of the state.

He also extended his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his role in pushing forward reforms that benefit Nigerian workers. Fubara noted that meaningful labour policies are essential for building a fair and productive society.

Fubara described the workforce as the engine that powers the state’s development. He pointed out that without the daily efforts of workers, many government goals would not be met. He called them “the backbone of the state’s development and beacon of hope for a better future.”

This year’s Workers’ Day theme, Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate, was also touched upon. Fubara noted the importance of protecting workers not only from unsafe conditions but also from the effects of climate change and unstable political environments.

He reminded stakeholders and the public that labour rights go hand-in-hand with broader social stability, and stressed that a healthy workforce leads to a stronger economy.
