The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is currently on a diplomatic visit to China to advance discussions surrounding a key water supply initiative aimed at benefiting residents in the satellite towns of the capital.
According to a statement released by Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the FCT Minister, Wike is presently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as a stopover on his way to China.
.During his visit, the minister is scheduled to meet with top executives of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group. The primary focus of this meeting is to finalize technical and financial arrangements related to water projects intended for communities on the outskirts of Abuja.
Olayinka noted that this diplomatic mission aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s broader goals to improve infrastructure in the capital territory.
The statement also recalled Tinubu’s September 2024 visit to China, during which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with both the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and CGCOC Group. The agreement aims to tackle challenges related to electricity and clean water supply across FCT satellite towns.
He further noted that this is part of the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on implementing meaningful and practical projects that impact the daily lives of Nigerians. The administration has committed N50 billion toward the water supply project, specifically targeting underserved areas such as Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje.
