Suspended Rivers Governor Makes First Public Appearance Following Two-Week Vacation

The suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, made his first public appearance on Sunday after returning from a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom. He attended a special Thanksgiving Service hosted by the Boys Brigade Metropolitan Battalion Council of Nigeria.

The event took place at St. Cyprian’s Church, Anglican Communion, in Port Harcourt and was led by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja. Governor Fubara’s presence at the service marked his first outing since his return to the state capital on Saturday evening.

According to a statement from his media aide, Nelson Chukwudi, the Thanksgiving Service was organized to honor the recently concluded camp activities of the Boys Brigade in Rivers State. The event also featured a special prayer session offered for Fubara, his family, and the peace and stability of the state.

Fubara did not attend the church alone. He was accompanied by two key figures — Amaopusenibo Fubara Hart and Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja — both of whom were seen beside him during the service. The atmosphere at the church was calm, but the occasion drew attention due to Fubara’s ongoing suspension and political tensions in the state.

His return to Port Harcourt comes amid fresh controversy. Just days before, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accused Fubara of being behind an incident that disrupted a women’s empowerment event organized by the office of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The event was also held in Port Harcourt.
