Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 35 young men in Auchi, Edo State, on suspicion of being involved in internet fraud. The arrests were carried out on Tuesday, May 5, 2025, following intelligence reports gathered by the agency.
According to information released by the EFCC through its official social media account, the operation was the result of detailed tracking and investigation into online fraud cases that had been traced to several locations in Auchi.
The areas raided included Vigilante Street, off Sabo Ibenafo Road, and the Back of Yak neighborhood, where the suspects were reportedly residing and operating from.
The EFCC noted that it acted based on “credible intelligence that linked [the suspects] to fraudulent internet activities.” The statement confirmed that officers moved in quickly once enough evidence had been collected about the suspects’ involvement in cybercrimes.
During the operation, the anti-graft agency seized a number of items believed to have been used in committing the crimes. These include nine different cars, eleven laptops, 46 mobile phones, and two smart watches. All recovered items are being held as part of the ongoing investigation.
While speaking on the arrests, the EFCC noted its determination to keep fighting all forms of financial crimes in Nigeria. “We remain resolute in our mandate to rid Nigeria of economic and financial crimes,” the agency stated.
